Why learning and teaching in Malaysia for science and maths subject has been such a big issue? Learning in English is not easy as well as teaching in English for world based universal subject, Maths and Science. What are the problems faced by the education system in order to standardize this learning and teaching for both students and teachers? It is hard to come up with a proper answers based on varies point of view. But, as a technology and innovation student,what form of idea can be point out to make this issue to be overcome?
Based on my suggestion, I feel that the education system in Malaysia should and have to make some changes in teaching and learning process especially for universal subjects like Maths and Science. I said so because, these two subject has been helping in many form through web based education. If learning and teaching has been changed into English language, teaches and students can gain more knowledge using internet where millions of information can be gathered and shared among other students without time limit. On the other way, both Maths and Science does help many students to achieve their life and became most popular scientist or researchers all over the world. Besides that, this teaching and learning based technology help students to share information with everyone around the world such as posting relevant information about Science and Maths in blogs and Youtube.
Problem occur in this issue;
1. Students not interested in learning Maths and Science in English because they found the language is difficult to understand.
2. Teachers also faces problems learning and teaching in English because teachers learn basic element Science and Maths in Bahasa Malaysia.
3. Besides being taught and learned in English, the government found it difficult to maintain the statistic in Education Ministry.
Ways to overcome this issues:
1. Both school and education ministry should work together to solve it rather than dragging it into parlimen and government. School should have mutual understandings to solve it so that students in school won't have difficulties to study Maths and Science in a one basic language.
2. Education Ministry should focus more on technology basis so that they have conceit reason to teach students in English and standardize them for world wide use.
3. In order to techonology perspective, more information is provided in English compare to Malay language plus books in library are explained in English.

ReplyDeleteI think that, before teaching students science and math in English, they should make sure the students really can understand well about the language. Because without understanding the language, it will be hard for them to learn math and Science. As a result, the might hate the subjects, including English. So, teach them from the basic, try to understand our students 1st because pushing them to study hard wont work well. But, attracting them to study smart will make the grow up happily. They surely will love any subject no matter how hard it is.

ReplyDeleteyour ways of overcome the issue is looking good enough to improve teaching maths and science in English. yet, the teacher is playing the main role in improving this issue. in my point of view, primary school student should be able to learn maths and science in English because they are still in learning process. so, the teachers should step forward in guiding those student to overcome their fear in facing English and support them as well.
